Learn more about Pok Pok

What is Pok Pok?

Pok Pok is a digital playroom filled with Montessori-inspired toys designed to spark creativity, imagination and learning for kids 2-7 and beyond. It’s just like all of the toys from your living room floor gathered into one safe, digital playroom.

We add new toys and expand existing toys all the time, so Pok Pok is available on a monthly or annual subscription. There is a 7 day free trial with both subscriptions.

You can learn more about what Pok Pok is all about on our Instagram or our blog.

Who is Pok Pok for?

Pok Pok is designed especially for kids 2-7 years old in mind, but we know many older kids and even adults who enjoy playing with it. Play has no age limit!

How is Pok Pok educational?

Similar to a set of wooden blocks, a doll house or a marble run, Pok Pok sparks imagination, learning and key cognitive development for kids. Pok Pok is designed to fit in seamlessly with the other toys in a child’s playroom and is one that they can pick up and explore at their own pace. Each toy in Pok Pok is open-ended, meaning that there’s no right or wrong, no winning or losing and that kids are completely in charge.

While it may confuse adults that there are no rules, no instructions, no menus and no language, it’s very intuitive for kids. It’s just like handing your child a set of blocks to play with, Pok Pok can be played in an endless number of ways. We work closely with early childhood experts to ensure that every experience in Pok Pok is enriching and supportive of children’s development.

Play nurtures a type of learning that kids can carry beyond their time in school, into the rest of their lives. It develops important skills like problem-solving, self-regulation, independence, self-confidence, planning and so many more. The list of what kids can learn through play is truly endless, and so are the possibilities of what they can do with these skills.

Is Pok Pok safe?

Yes, absolutely. Our top priority is the well-being and privacy of the children that use Pok Pok. We’re parents too and wanted to make something we could feel safe about our own kids using!

Pok Pok is compliant with COPPA and GDPR regulations. We do not advertise to children or trick them into buying things. We hand-draw all of our animations and record all of our sound effects and music in house to ensure a calming, gentle environment that doesn’t overstimulate young children.

Please have a look at our privacy policy for details about how we process data.

How do you make sure it’s not addictive?

This is a question we spent two years asking ourselves and double checking before we launched the company. After years of research and playtesting, we have designed a product that’s intentionally not supposed to be addictive or overstimulating for kids. Yes, you read that right. This boils down to a few key things:

  1. Pok Pok is open-ended. No rules, no levels to beat, no “just one more go.” Kids can step away and come back to Pok Pok just like they can walk away from building a puzzle or a Lego tower.
  2. Our animations are slow-paced and our sounds are gentle. This goes a long way in making sure we aren’t overstimulating kids with dopamine or dysregulating their sensory systems. Pok Pok is as gentle as a set of wooden blocks.
  3. The fun comes from within your child, not the toys. Kids are intrinsically motivated to explore, experiment and create on their own vs. extrinsic factors like leveling up, which makes stepping away from Pok Pok more seamless than a video game.

Does my child need my help to use Pok Pok?

We designed Pok Pok to be completely intuitive for kids as young as two to navigate it on their own, so while it’s unlikely that they’ll “need” your help, many kids find it really valuable to have a caregiver explore with them (or at least show them the ropes).

They will never see a menu, ad or in-app purchase that will pull them out of the play—kids just see the toys. We recommend using Guided Access when giving your device to your kid to make sure they don’t accidentally leave Pok Pok and get into apps they shouldn’t be in.

How to set up Guided Access

Go to your device’s Settings, tap Accessibility, then turn on Guided Access. Tap Passcode Settings, then tap Set Guided Access Passcode. Enter a passcode, then re-enter it. From here, you can also turn on Face ID or Touch ID as a way to end a Guided Access session.

How to start a Guided Access session

Open up Pok Pok and then, on an iPhone X or later, triple-click the side button. On an iPhone 8 or earlier, triple-click the Home button. If you want parts of your screen to stop responding to touch, use one finger to circle those areas. You can move or resize the circle, or tap the X to remove it. Tap Guided Access, then tap Start. Or, to start a Guided Access session with Siri*, open the app that you want, then tell Siri "Turn on Guided Access."

Does Pok Pok work offline?

Yes! You only need an internet connection to download the app and subscribe once, then it works offline seamlessly. Be sure to connect your device to the internet every few weeks to give the app a chance to load in our updates which we add regularly.
