We are also introducing items that bring brand new STEM concepts like magnetism, electricity and gravity into the mix for the first time. With this comes even more cool gadgets that have introduced symbolism in an accessible, language-free way.

One of our favourite things about Busy Board is that it can truly be anything, depending on who’s playing with it! Some kids play with it at face value, taking in each button, sound and mechanic thoughtfully for what they are — a bunch of random gadgets. Others imagine where this group of objects might be found together and dream up a narrative surrounding a cockpit, super computer or alien space ship. It doesn’t actually matter how kids play with this toy, because the outcome is always the same — it’s piquing curiosity, developing problem-solving skills and fostering creative thinking.

Because all Pok Pok toys are designed to grow with kids as they get older and become more dextrous, curious and experimental, we’ve packed the Busy Board full of mechanisms that welcome all levels of engagement. For example, some switches can be fiddled with and enjoyed using only one finger, but when two hands get involved, a surprise will reveal itself! We’ve added lots of new two-handed play opportunities to grow into and discover.

Busy Board supports multi-touch play to help develop fine motor skills.

This type of trial and error play offers an amazing foundation for STEM learning and brain development. When kids are curious and engaging in goal-directed behaviour, they are making important discoveries about the world while learning about how things work. Busy Board is one of the purest examples of free play we have in the Playroom, because it lets kids be in control and sparks tons of curiosity.

As always in Pok Pok Playroom, every new feature comes handcrafted by our team. Each sound effect is hand-recorded, and we have been working extra hard to make Busy Board a calming, sensory-friendly toy that doesn’t overstimulate or dysregulate children during play. One of the ways we do this is by ensuring that every sound that comes out of a button or gadget is controlled by the child. They get to decide if they want to hear more of it, or would rather move on to something else. We’ve talked a lot about finding sensory input and balance in the past, and it’s always top of mind as we design and update our toys.

We hope your kids will enjoy tinkering with all of the new doo-dads in Busy Board and can’t wait to hear what you think of our newest update. We’d love to receive your feedback and ideas so we can keep making Pok Pok just the way your family wants it. Say hello at hello@playpokpok.com and follow along on social media @playpokpok.
