Our new Pawn Maker allows you to create your own characters and play with them in other toys! This gives little ones even more opportunity to express themselves, explore identity, storytelling, and celebrate our differences.
Whether you’re creating familiar faces, imaginary characters, or brand-new buds, Pawn Maker brings a depth to play that offers endless possibilities. We can’t wait to see whole families go on adventures, superheroes save the day, and so much more.
What inspired Pawn Maker?
From day one, we’ve observed how kids connect with the characters in Pok Pok by finding those who resembled them, family members, or simply made them giggle. As they developed routines in the app, we began to wonder how we could continue to deepen this connection to their Pok Pok play.
Once Dress-Up was added to our collection, it became more apparent that they loved the process of making both familiar and fresh personas, using their creativity to express themselves and experience moments of independence with their decision-making. Seeing how much it meant to kids, we felt that it was time to continue the fun beyond Dress-Up!
We thought, “What if they could create their family and take them on an epic journey?” Riding from Town to Number Journey, to the beach in Islands, to blasting off in Space! What if there was a superhero character who could show up to save the day wherever they were needed? Or a funny friend to keep you company while running errands in Town?
In offering this, our intention is to also give kids more ownership over their play and unlock new curiosities in their mind about what exciting connections and interactions are possible. For our team, it’s also a step toward allowing kids to shape Pok Pok on a broader scale. What other types of customization can we build into the app? What else can be transported between toys? (You’ll have to stay tuned to find out!)
How To Play:
Pawn Maker can be accessed through the pawn icon on the left side of the main Pok Pok screen. Upon entering, you’ll see different stations that represent 4 of our toys as well as a colorization station and a voice customization station. At the bottom of the screen, there is a rounded menu button with a pawn icon.
Pawn Creation:
- Click this menu button to reveal the customization options for your pawn! The options on the right are clothes and accessories, with physical features on the left.
- Once the pawn is ready, click it to make it appear in the space above you. You can also select one of the pawns already available to edit it. If you’d like to customize even further, bring them to the colorization or voice station!
- Voice customization: In the voice station, the red dial will allow you to select a voice, and the green dial will adjust the pitch.
- Colorization: To colorize, pop your pawn up on the stand and you’ll see an article of clothing appear. Swipe through the articles to find the one you wish to edit, then tap on the colored dots above it to adjust the palette!
- Now that your pawns are ready, you can play with them here in the toy, or drag them to one of the four portals that’ll transport them to Islands, Number Journey, Space, or Town.
- For instance, find the Space icon and drag your pawn into one of the four slots (as represented by the grey dots) To go to this toy, you can click the icon above the slots.
- Enjoy your new characters and be sure to let us know about the fun you get into together!
